The Power of Decision

The power of decision is my own.

Let us today be truly humble, and accept what we have made as what it is. 2 The power of decision is our own. 3 Decide but to accept your rightful place as co-creator of the universe, and all you think you made will disappear. 4 What rises to awareness then will be all that there ever was, eternally as it is now. 5 And it will take the place of self-deceptions made but to usurp the altar to the Father and the Son. – W-pI.152.8 – A Course in Miracles

We have before us, each waking moment, a decision to make.

It may not seem like a very important or meaningful decision, but that is just because we have given the power of that decision over to the things and circumstances we perceive outside of us.

This is one of the core distinctions between Truth and Illusion. That the power of decision is outside our ability to control.

What choice do we have when the terrible and painful strike our lives?

What decision can be made when it seems as if the dominoes have already cascaded, and left what we value most in ruins?

These are the extreme cases, where the power of decision seems completely outside of our grasp. I won’t tell you that in those moments, you can decide to experience the harder parts of life differently; you can of course, but without practice, it can be tremendously difficult.

So where do we begin?

We begin by recognizing that we are making a decision all of the time. Every moment. And not a bunch of small decisions that are minuscule in meaning. We are making a single decision about everything, every moment.

In A Course in Miracles, Jesus makes it abundantly clear that our only real decision lies between Love and Fear.

The distinction between the two is decisive and definitive. Love is from God.

Love is God.

Love has no opposite, in Reality, being Reality itself.

In the world we have made, a world of error [sin] and illusion [projection of sin], we have dreamt of an opposite to Love; Fear.

Fear is the foundation of our insanity; it is the building blocks of the entire Universe as we have made it, and perceive it, every moment. It is the source of our anxiety, of our aging and dying, of our sickness and pain, and of our unhappiness and lack of peace.

Our power of decision is the key to changing our mind. If we look out and see a world built on fear, on pain, on suffering, and on guilt, we are deciding that fear is Real, and by proxy, that God [Love] is not.

If we find ourselves in a moment of frustration, anger, sadness, depression, or the like, we can know that we have decided for fear, and not love.

Fear is the decision for separation. It is the insane decision to keep the very conditions we despise and wish God would change for us, to remain the same. It is a decision to keep our pain and to reject the Peace God wills for us to know, and know truly.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6

By retaining your power of decision, you will be faced with all of the error from previous decisions. This is fine. This is good. It is a time to turn to your Father, to your inner teacher and guidance, and be shown how to change your mind, and decide differently.

Notice how the mind decides upon the moment of waking. This is an important time to notice this, and perhaps decide differently. Spend time throughout your day noticing when your decision for Love may have changed to fear, and become silent and still, so you may decide differently.

In Loving Grace,

Blessings
